Creating a Will
Here you can download any of three Will templates which are totally free, with zero sharing of your data or selling you services. However, each is just a PDF which you can print and fill in by hand. They also lack the ability to create special terms or manage complex requirements, so it's best used by people with simple estates (see the guidance document). For example, it's best if you have a small number of specific legacies, and few beneficiaries (for example, your spouse or partner, or up to two children).
But, properly completed, signed and witnessed, each of these Wills is as legal as any other. Note that you're responsible for making sure it's legally valid! (You could of course pay a solicitor a relatively small amount to cast their eye over it.)
IMPORTANT: For each of these templates, please use the How To Guide for Creating a Will, which also contains guidance on how to complete each specific Will version.
1. ADULT ONLY
A will where there are no children under 18 to be looked after or intended to be direct beneficiaries (for example, where you are naming a spouse or an adult child or children, or other adult family members or friends as beneficiaries. This will does allow for where children might be indirect beneficiaries as a result of the death of a direct beneficiary however).
2. ADULT and CHILD
A will where there is at least one adult beneficiary but also (at least at the point the will was made) a child or children under 18 to be looked after by trustees and guardians, even if they are not intended to be direct beneficiaries (for example, where there might be a surviving partner as beneficiary, or where that partner might die before the child turns 18).
3. CHILD ONLY
A will where there was only one or more beneficiaries who were under the age of 18 at the time the will was made, and so potentially require trustees and guardians to look after them until they reach 18 (if they reach 18 before the testator dies, this is no problem).
