Death-Proof Your Life

We're all going to die. You knew that already. But have you really considered the implications of that on your loved ones? It's a bit heavy, right?

That's why I have created this site with a blend of serious messaging and a light tone. Not So Grave provides the tools and resources you need to navigate this important aspect of life (well, death). Just straightforward guidance to help you with the practical, financial and emotional preparation that we all should take.

My inspiration

My father died suddenly in 2023. I wish I had been better prepared. Luckily he was. He left a will, a financial legacy and instructions laid out in documents - which financial institutions to contact, simplified explanations of actions to take, and guidance on who could help.

It helped me a lot. I never considered creating this until after his death, when I realised that there aren't any websites dedicated to simplifying preparation for one's own death.

Without being melodramatic, my inspiration comes from my Dad.

Practical Preparation

We all understand the importance of being financially prepared for the unexpected in life. But far fewer of us are prepared for death - and the impact on our loved ones.

So within It's Not So Grave, I've put together, by sections, practical tips on estate planning, wills, executor guidance, and more. These will help you to take control of your financial future and ensure peace of mind for your loved ones.

So where to start? I'll guide you all the way and you'll find all the documents you could ever need, including a master checklist for a step-by-step approach to end of life planning.

About Not So Grave

Having been inspired by Dad - an inveterate, straightforward, and honest, businessman - I've built this site with three aims.

One, to give you the best possible help I can, in order to properly prepare for your death; to minimise the pain of loss that will be experienced by your loved ones, and to maximise their financial and emotional wellbeing in the aftermath.

Two, to do so with gentle humour and good intent. Death is pretty crap without making it overly morbid.

Three, and without any conflict with the above, to make this site financially support itself, and my family, as I dedicate my time and energy to build out this as a wonderful, one-stop, knowledge base. Dad would have thought me a fool if I did it for free!

So, yes, for the sections helping you prepare I have put in some links with commission payments for me. Not all are paid, as many are government, not-for-profit, or charity links. Obviously I get nothing for sending you on to those latter ones. But where there are links to businesses where I might get something from them if you purchase, then I mark them with an asterisk (*). It's quite transparent. You don't pay a penny more for using those links. So, I'd really appreciate it if you choose to use them.

Finally, there's a section where I give advice if you are coming here as a result of someone you love sadly dying. There are ZERO paid links here. I don't intend to take a penny off someone experiencing loss and in the midst of grief. It's just plain, simple advice without any personal gain - like many good people gave me, for free, after Dad died.
